Megan Williams headshot

Megan Williams
Student Tutor, Student Nurses' Association-Memphis, and Helen Hardin Honors Program Student
N5, Senior
Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Expected Graduation: May 2020
Career goals: To pursue a career in trauma/ critical care
Favorite thing about LCON: I have come to appreciate the clinical hour requirement this semester. I’ve gained a wealth of experience and greatly enhanced my nursing skills thus far at Regional One and I look forward to continued learning as I complete my hours. I’m truly thankful for the time I’ve spent here because through discussion with other nursing students at different schools, I’ve discovered they are not allotted sufficient clinical time/experience. Therefore, I am appreciative that I chose the UofM.
Fun Fact: I learned how to play the guitar and to speak Spanish fluently in the 8th grade at Cordova Middle School.

De'Vante Yates headshot

Devante Yates
N2 Historian, Student Nurses' Association-Lambuth
Hometown: West Point, Mississippi
Expected Graduation: December 2021
Career goals: My goal is to become an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner. I’ve always had a connection with the elderly population. My interest in non-communicable disease began when I noticed the complications my grandmother and grandfather encountered as they increased with age. It is not only the elderly that battles diseases such as diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases but rural populations as well. I also hope to explore the demographics of rural areas to combat the same issues the elderly face to prevent them in the younger generations.
Favorite thing about LCON: The faculty at LCON has a unique way of cultivating each student by giving them the tools needed to be prepared as a nurse. Not only that, faculty take an interest in you doing your best as a student. Whether it is setting up skills lab to practice additional skills, providing additional office hours, or just having someone to discuss the journey with, the faculty and staff are always there.
Fun Fact: I’ve been vegan for over a year. It has allowed me to explore not only the health benefits but the environmental factors as well.

Angela Newell headshot

Angela Newell
Social Media Chair, Student Nurses' Association-Memphis
Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Expected Graduation: December 2020/May 2021
Career goals: I have always had a passion for Labor and Delivery. At the age of 18, I was humbled to be able to witness my sister give birth to my niece. It was the most amazing thing I had ever been a part of. I gave birth to my son and, unfortunately, experienced several complications. These complications almost took my life. I want to take an active role in women’s health and educate women about pregnancy. My ultimate goal would be to lower the rate of complications that arise during delivery. I would also like to further my education by becoming a CNA (Certified Nurse Midwife) and a WHNP (Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner).
Favorite thing about LCON: I love the challenging environment that LCON provides. I have no doubt that I am getting the best education. What I love the most is that we are a family. The professors push us, while at the same time are invested in our success. My classmates are my sisters and brothers. They have made me better, not only as a future nurse, but as a person. I will forever be grateful for my experiences here at LCON.
Fun Fact: I am absolutely obsessed with singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles. I even had the chance to meet her after a concert in Nashville. If you don’t know her, you should check her out!

Nicole Cagle

Career goals: My dream job is in the Trauma ICU at the Memphis Med, but I would also love to find a registry or PRN position at LeBonheur to have the best of both worlds! As a Memphis native, my hearts tugging me that way. But maybe grad school or travel nursing will move me somewhere fun too!
Favorite thing about LCON: I love the supportive and close-knit community I have found here at Lambuth! I think it is one of the many things that makes this program stand out and will be proud to say it is my alma mater come May.
Fun Fact: Outside of nursing school, I’m living the newlywed life and raising a 65 lb labradoodle, Romeo. I also love Chick-fil-a, adding Pinterest projects to my honey-do-list, and dreaming of where I can travel once I have a big girl job!”

Sydney Reynolds headshot

Sydney Brooke Reynolds
Co-Secretary, Student Nurses' Association-Lambuth
Hometown: Dyer, Tennessee
Expected Graduation: May 2020
Career goals: I have always wanted to be a Nurse since I was a little girl watching my Nana. I plan to fulfill my dreams of being a Registered Nurse in Oncology/Hospice Care. I decided to go into that speciality when my aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and also my great aunt being diagnosed with cancer as well. Seeing the compassion and love that was given to them, made me want to give back to others in the same way. There’s something about seeing a person take their last breath and knowing their pain and suffering is gone and they are at peace. I hope to be the nurse with compassion and love that families need in such a tough time.
Favorite thing about LCON: I love how our professors genuinely care about each student's success and the close relationships we have with them. I am so thankful to have been taught by great professors who have given me the confidence and ability to take care of patients.
Fun Fact: I actually use to take Piano lessons, so I can play you Yankie Doodle hahaha! I also like to draw/color when I am not studying, and I have a dog (Lab) named Benji who is mine and my fiancé’s child.

Ashely Kee
Co-Vice President, Student Nurses' Association-Lambuth
Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas (moved to Franklin, Tennessee in high school)
Expected Graduation: May 2020
Career goals: My background is in mental health. I have been a therapist working with DCS/CPS and the school and court systems for eight years before deciding to come back to school. My ultimate goal is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I still want to work with the adolescent population, but I have become interested in working in the prison system as well.
Favorite thing about LCON: LCON has provided an excellent environment to develop and refine skills and abilities needed to navigate the professional world. The smaller campus gives endless opportunities for one on one engagement and I have been grateful for the friendships and relationships I've built along the way.
Fun Fact: I'm super outgoing, friendly, love to make people laugh, and I've been told I never meet a stranger. But at my core, I'm an awkward introvert who will stay up thinking about that one time three years ago that I waved back at someone not waving at me. I almost always would rather be home vegging out and watching Netflix.

  Bailey AccardoBailey Accardo
Student Advocate, Student Nurses' Association-Memphis

Hometown: Memphis. Tennessee
Expected Graduation: December 2020
Career goals: I'm one of those nursing students who came into the program knowing that I wanted to be a nurse, but I had no idea what kind of nurse. Now, I think I'd enjoy working in the ICU setting, and I'd like to pursue some more schooling after I've worked for a while. Both of my parents are CRNAs, so there's always the possibility that I'll "continue the legacy," as they like to say.
Favorite thing about LCON: Definitely the students. Being a student tutor and a member of SNA has really expanded my opportunities to get to know people in the program. Thanks to those roles, I've had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful individuals, both from my cohort and others. It's inspiring to be in a building full of so much talent and so many unique personalities, and I fully believe that LCON students will make great nurses. I couldn't be more proud of my classmates or my program!
Fun Fact: I used to live the barista life! I worked for Starbucks for several years. Even though it's been a while, I can still make a mean latte with heart-shaped foam.

Jay Dotson headshot

Jer'llyhia "Jay" Dotson
Social Chair, Student Nurses' Association-Lambuth
Hometown: Memphis. Tennessee
Expected Graduation: December 2020
Career goals: My ultimate goal is to become a Child Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I've always been interested in pediatrics...but I began to show interest in mental health after noticing the barriers that my father and brother faced with their mental illnesses, as well as my own suffering from ACES. I thought that it was pretty cool to be able to combine the two. I know that it would be a challenge, but I am all for it. Someone has to do it!
Favorite thing about LCON: I love being a student at LCON. Not bragging or anything (haha), but I feel like LCON is different from most nursing schools. We are like one big diverse family. They look for the best in us and I couldn't be more thankful! There are days when I just feel like giving up and they are here for me like family, letting me know that it's okay to cry but after the crying session its time to put the big girl pants on. I also like being apart of the SNA, there are plenty of opportunities to get to know others who are not in my cohort and get involved in the community. Not to mention our scrubs are the cutest!
Fun Fact: Something most people don't know about me is I can actually play the guitar... a little. I love to read and write and nearly finished my first book over the summer. Oh and there's an apostrophe in my first name.

Shawna Lay headshot

Shawna Lay
Membership Chair, Student Nurses' Association-Memphis
Hometown: Memphis. Tennessee
Expected Graduation: December 2020
Career goals: I really would love to go into the Neuro ICU or just work somewhere with geriatric patients with neurological problems such as dementia of the Alzheimer’s Type. I would love to continue my education on a masters or possibly a doctoral level so maybe I can come back to LCON as a professor versus a student, but we will see how things go.
Favorite thing about LCON: The professors’ here do care. They want to see you exceed the very best that you can. Some schools don’t get to enjoy this luxury, but here at LCON I feel like we are really lucky to have the faculty that we do today.
Fun Fact: I have a Shih Tzu puppy dog whom I am completely obsessed with named Princess Bella, and we share a birthday.

Kate Kubicek headshot

Kate Kubicek
President, Student Nurses' Association-Lambuth
Hometown: Colusa, California and Eugene, Oregon
Expected Graduation: December 2019
Career goals: I am primarily interested in hospice and palliative care and love the geriatric patient population... but I'm also interested in psych and research. Eventually I will be pursuing a DNP or PhD. If I take the practice route, I would love to be certified as a medical interpreter and be able to do some international relief work in Central and South America. In either case, my long term plan definitely includes nursing education. I love working as a nursing tutor!
Favorite thing about LCON: I feel very fortunate to have found my way to LCON-Lambuth as the foundation of my nursing career. LCON faculty are outstanding, and I have tremendous pride in our program. I love LCON-Lambuth's small class sizes and tight, supportive campus community. I also love the boundless opportunities that the UofM provides! With money available for study abroad scholarships, I was able to fulfill a life-long dream of traveling. The summer after my N2 semester I went to Costa Rica and studied Spanish at the University of Costa Rica, a truly ideal first international travel experience. The following summer after N4 I was able to visit Cusco, Peru for two months, completing an additional 6 Spanish credits and a month-long service learning project at a public health clinic... while being immersed in UNESCO World Heritage sites at the center of the Incan Empire and one of the seven wonders of the world. Both were life-changing experiences that UofM made possible, and which will have a profound impact on my nursing career.
I want to encourage every nursing student to take advantage of these incredible opportunities!
Fun Fact: I love music; I play the mandolin and am a third-generation accordion player. Apologies to my sweet neighbors for my choice of study break hobby!
