Category of Work
General Maintenance
The GM staff handles unstopping sink and toilet drains, repairing leaking faucets, glass replacement, floor and ceiling tile replacement, first response on roof leaks, minor door repairs (on wooden doors only), and many other duties as assigned. This shop also has construction carpenters who work on in-house renovation projects. They also work on roofs, walls, floors, masonry (brick, concrete, tile), and provide rental property repairs.
Lighting & Other Electrical
The electric shop handles relamping (changing of light bulbs and fluorescent tubes) and restoring power outages (except at South Campus, where outages are usually handled by General Maintenance, unless large in scope), installation of new electrical circuits and light fixtures, elevator maintenance and repair (usually in conjunction with a contract elevator company), emergency generator maintenance, providing temporary electrical power for special events (concerts, performances, etc.), and repair of some departmental electrical appliances.
Alarms and Audio/Visual
The electronics shop works on and/or installs fire alarms, door alarms, burglar alarms, surveillance systems and area monitoring equipment, clock and time card systems, projectors and VCRs, tape and disc players, smart classroom A/V equipment, TVs, and other electronic equipment.
Landscape
Grass cutting, leaf raking, edging, mulching, pruning, etc.; assist with set up for official special events; outdoor trash removal; recycling services; street and lot repair; tree maintenance; flower installation and street and pavement sweeping.
Heating & Air Conditioning
Maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and their associated controls and piping systems, maintenance and repair of domestic hot water boilers, repair of cold rooms, coolers, ice makers and refrigerated units, welding, and sheet metal work.
Custodial
Interior trash removal; general cleaning; restocking rest room paper products; floor maintenance; carpet cleaning and repair; assist with official special events; restroom disinfection; window cleaning; swimming pool and spa maintenance.
Locks / Keys / Card Access
Installation, maintenance and repair of locking systems and associated hardware; re-keying of locks; making duplicate university keys; card access installation, repair, programming and access history; installation and repair of pushbutton access hardware; repair of file cabinet locks.
Signage
Production of approved university signs by contract through the Campus Planning and Design department.
Plumbing
Installation, maintenance and repair of fire sprinkler systems and fire plugs; sewer systems; main drain lines; safety showers and eyewash units; bathroom tubs and showers; domestic water system pumps, piping and fixtures; backflow (reverse pressure) devices; routine plumbing beyond the scope of General Maintenance.
Pest Control
Treatment for and removal of mammals, rodents, insects, birds, lawn pests (weeds) and mold and mildew.
Campus Planning & Design
  • Campus Planning and Design is responsible for the planning, design, and implementation of facility and site improvements that enhance the campus environment.
  • Services provided include master planning, facility programming, Capital Budget preparation, contract design management, architectural design, interior design and furnishings, siteplanning, landscape design, and construction management assistance.
  • The Department coordinates facility modification requests with the facility user to provide schematic plans and estimates. Approved project requests then proceed to design, bidding, and construction completion.
  • Fees for providing basic design and construction services are billed at the rate of 10% of total construction costs.
Services Physical Plant Cannot Provide
Physical Plant cannot repair Cafeteria/Dining Services appliances, automobiles or trucks, computer equipment (including printers), telecommunications equipment, privately owned equipment of any kind; provide moving services; unlock rooms or buildings.

Banner Index Number
If you are unsure of your Banner index number contact your immediate supervisor or support representative. An index number does not have to be entered for work that is not chargeable to your department (example: building system repairs in non-auxiliary spaces are not billable; repairs to departmental equipment or furniture are billable).
Responsible Official for Account
Using the account number entered in the Account Number section, enter the name of the person who is listed in FRS (the University's Financial Records System) as the Responsible Official for Account. Contact your immediate supervisor or support representative if you are unsure of the correct name to enter into the Responsible Official for Account field.
