Student Wellness and Fitness Center Working Group Announced
Dear Campus Community:
The UofM is moving forward with plans for our new student recreation facility. The working group has been finalized and includes the following individuals: Dr. Richard Bloomer, Director of the School of Health Sciences; Drew Gilmore, SGA President; Bruce Harber, Chief Operating Officer; Brad Martin, Board of Trustees; Kevyanna Rawls, SGA Vice President; Dr. Darrell Ray, Vice President for Student Affairs; and Tony Poteet, Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Design. This group will be requesting input from not only Student Government Association members but other student groups across campus as well.
Building on the existing design, I have challenged the committee to provide for better academic integration into the new facility, making use of expert resources available on campus that are currently underutilized. In response to previous student input, I have requested they address the need for integration of nutrition services and healthy dining, along with fitness and physical performance consultation and related testing. Accordingly, the working group will expand its vision to one that includes comprehensive student wellness and fitness.
We will provide regular updates on the facility as plans develop.
