Southern Avenue Construction Update
Dear Campus Community:
As the spring semester comes to a close, 2018 is already proving to be an exciting year. This week, work is set to begin on the new, general parking garage on Southern Avenue. Foundation work for the new garage will necessitate closing the remainder of the project site, which encompasses sections of Lot 15. To avoid delays in construction, parking lot closures were planned as close as possible to the end of the semester and exam period, after which there will be far less demand for parking.
Starting Wednesday, April 18, the parking area immediately south of Southern between Echles and Houston will be fenced and closed for the garage project. To prepare for the parking spaces that would be lost during the project and to accommodate any displaced parking, the parking lot south of the construction site was recently enlarged by approximately 722 spaces. Those who park in the areas affected by construction should be able to locate parking spaces south of the fencing and construction site (i.e., directly north of Spottswood Avenue). For accessibility, Echles Street will remain open until exams conclude on Thursday, May 3.
Additionally, the Biology Parking Lot (Lot 18) north of Walker on the Alumni Mall, between Ellington Biology and Smith Chemistry, will close on Tuesday, May 1, to allow work to proceed on the new bridge landing and student amphitheater. The included map indicates the extent of the parking lot closures for the new Southern Avenue parking garage, the land bridge and amphitheater project.
