Better Days Ahead
Friday, February 26, 2021
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
This has been one of the most difficult years in the history of the University of Memphis and our city. So many of us are struggling with not only managing the stress and challenges of day-to-day life in the midst of a global pandemic, but also the grief of losing friends and family. The recent snow storm and resulting problems with access to water and transportation only served to magnify the obstacles.
We know this year has been particularly difficult for our students. Although you have demonstrated remarkable resilience and persistence during this year, I want to remind you that the faculty and staff are here to support you regardless of the need. Do not hesitate to reach out and ask for assistance. Our advisors, health and counseling personnel are available through telehealth and telecounseling.
There is good news on the horizon. We are anticipating and preparing for a return to significantly more face-to-face classes this summer, much greater social interaction outside of the classroom, dramatically better access to faculty, in-person orientation and a campus environment much more like what we know and love. As for the fall, we are preparing for a return to a fully face-to-face campus, in addition to our traditional online options and UofM Global.
As we look ahead to better days and the opportunity to once again enjoy the many relationships that make our campus special, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask for help if needed over the course of the coming months.
Thank you for your patience, persistence and compassion.
Dr. M. David Rudd
