Best Practices for Engaging Foundations in Research Funding

Lunch and Learn with the Division of Research and Innovation for faculty to focus on additional, often underutilized sources

On October 20, the University of Memphis Division of Research and Innovation will host a virtual Lunch and Learn session focused on best practices for engaging foundations in research funding. The panel, moderated by Dr. Erin Nelson, associate professor in the Department of Public and Nonprofit Administration, will feature perspectives from both foundation professionals and UofM researchers who have successfully secured philanthropic grants.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Holly Henry, Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health
  • Lauren Taylor, Hyde Family Foundation
  • Dr. Courtnee Melton-Fant, UofM School of Public Health

With the federal grant landscape rapidly evolving, this timely session will introduce UofM faculty to additional—and often underutilized—funding opportunities through national foundations. Participants will also learn about the University’s internal resources designed to support faculty in their funding search.

Discussion topics will include how organizational mission and program priorities shape foundation decisions, strategies for effective communication with funders, and general guidance on developing successful proposals for philanthropic support.
