Explanation of Fees

The fee information in this section is intended to cover the situations most students will encounter. Detailed information concerning other miscellaneous student fees may be found in the Undergraduate and/or Graduate Bulletins of the University.

The listing of any fee or incidental charge in this publication does not constitute a contract between the University and the student. As a condition of registration, each student will pay the fees in effect for the semester for which he or she registers. All questions in regard to fees, fee payment, and refunds should be directed to the Bursar's Office, 115 Wilder Tower or by calling the Bursar's Office at bursar2@memphis.edu or 901.678.2712.

Fees are subject to change without notice. The University will usually collect the amount of fees due at the time of fee satisfaction in accordance with the residency classification and fee rates in effect. After all enrollments are complete, any over-collections will be refunded and students will be billed for any under-collections.

Fees for AUDITING courses are assessed on the same basis as fees for credit courses. Courses offered between terms, for a concentrated period during a term, or at specific locations may be subject to fees on a per-hour basis only.

Student Fees 2017-2018 Per Hour Cost at 15 Hours

Tuition
Tuition supports classroom instruction and general operating expenses. Tuition is assessed based on the student matriculation level (undergraduate/graduate/law) and the number of hours enrolled. For example, a graduate student taking an undergraduate course will be charged graduate tuition.

During fall and spring terms, the cost of tuition is based on a per hour basis up to 12 hours for undergraduate level and 10 hours for graduate level with a reduced per hour rate above these hours. Law has a maximum assessment at 11 hours. The tuition assessed for summer courses is based on the student matriculation level and number of hours enrolled, with no maximum.

Please Note: TN eCampus Program and U of M Online Program (M50) courses are assessed tuition in addition to on-campus course tuition, with no maximum. U of M Online 4xx or 5xx courses are assessed tuition at the on-campus rate.

Out-of-State Tuition
Students who are classified as out-of-state residents by the Office of Admissions pay an additional out-of-state tuition as indicated in the Fee Chart. Out-of-state tuition is assessed based on student matriculation level (undergraduate/graduate/law) and the number of hours enrolled. During fall and spring terms, the cost of the out-of-state tuition is based on a per hour basis up to 12 hours for undergraduate, 10 hours for graduate, and 11 hours for Law. The out-of-state tuition assessed for summer courses is based on the student matriculation level and number of hours enrolled, with no maximum.

Residency classifications are determined by the Office of Admissions and residency appeals information is available in the Office of Admissions.
