The department is under the direction of the Acquisitions Librarian acting as Head
of the Collection Management Department who reports to the Dean of Libraries. While
the organization continues to evolve since the combination of previous departments,
historically there have been four principal divisions of responsibility:
- firm order division which establishes bibliographic integrity, selects vendors, and
prepares purchase orders;
- receiving division which is responsible for the proper identification of, initial
accounting for, and processing of materials received on firm orders;
- standing order division which places, monitors, and receives non-periodical continuations;
and
- gift division which receives and accounts for non-periodical gifts.
Student assistants are employed to provide support in all areas of the department.
A departmental organization chart is kept updated as are job descriptions for all
employees.
