The undergraduate program in Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS):
- Provides a comprehensive exposure to the field of exercise science, with coursework
in areas such as kinesiology, physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, and exercise
programming
- Introduces students to the theoretical concepts and practical skills associated with
preventive health, exercise and disease management, physical fitness, exercise program
design, and sports conditioning
- Provides an overview of mechanical aspects of human movement as well as physiological
systems including anatomical, musculoskeletal, neural, cardiovascular, metabolic,
and respiratory; inclusive of both lecture and laboratory experiences.
- Includes a one semester (360 hour) internship (final semester of senior year), in
which students can select their area of focus in order to gain 'real world' work experience
in their chosen field. An option to complete the internship within one of the many
Human Performance Laboratories is available with permission/acceptance of the lab

Students completing the program are well-prepared to sit for national certification
examinations offered through such professional organizations as the American College
of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Interested
students should seek the guidance of EXSS faculty members in preparing for the exams
of interest
Graduating students are well-prepared to enter graduate school in the areas of allied
health (physical and occupational therapy), medicine, exercise science, health promotion,
and associated disciplines. Note: Students should seek the guidance of the Academic
Services Coordinator and the pre-health professional advisor with regards to needed
pre-requisite courses for graduate school admission
Graduating students are prepared to enter the workforce as personal trainers, exercise
specialists, and other health and fitness professionals.
