Exercise Training Intervention Laboratory

Director: Rob Townsend

The Exercise Training Intervention Laboratory is a resource for intervention studies focused on both aerobic and anaerobic exercise training. The facility is well-equipped with a variety of cardiovascular equipment, as well as machine and free weight equipment. Investigators in the department have exclusive access to the facility for one-on-one and group exercise training of research participants.

In addition, the laboratory is open at selected times during the week to provide an opportunity for faculty and staff within the college to perform a personal exercise program. A graduate assistant is available to perform basic physical assessments, as well as to provide guidance related to exercise prescription and oversight. Prior to using the laboratory facility for training purposes, interested individuals must complete a consent form, a medical history form, a physical activity readiness questionnaire (PAR-Q), a physical approval form (if applicable), and a contact form. All of these documents must be printed, completed, and turned into the laboratory staff prior to using the facility.

Matt Davis is currently a graduate assistant at The University of Memphis. Matt has previously earned a bachelor degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Tennessee. His previous work experience includes both athletic training and physical therapy settings. Matt currently plans to pursue a career in strength and conditioning / human performance after completing the master’s program here at The University of Memphis.
