Psychology INSPIREPsychology INSPIRE is a 6-week summer internship program that is sponsored by the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. The overall goal of the program is to increase the number of individuals from underrepresented populations who pursue degrees and careers in the social and behavioral sciences. Paired with a graduate student and workingwith a faculty mentor, Psychology INSPIRE Interns are involved in lab and research experiences, science lectures, academic and professional development activities, mentoring, and networking experiences. How do I find an Internship?
  1. Start early! Begin your search at least a year before you plan to do an internship.
  2. Consult with your academic advisor—see the list of Internship Contacts.
  3. Develop your resume and cover letter and have them critiqued by Career Services. Developing Your Resume
  4. Create a profile in eRecruiting and upload your resume to learn about on campus interviews and receive emails about new internship opportunities.
  5. Look at some of the current opportunities available through the Office of Academic Internships here.
  6. Sharpen your interviewing skills via a Career Services mock interview. How to Prepare for an Interview
  7. Participate in the Uof M Career and Internship Fairs to talk with employers who are seeking interns.
  8. Network! Let friends, family, current/former employers, and classmates know of your interest in an internship.
  9. Use Google.com or another search engine to locate possible internships.
  10. Research organization(s) of interest and say: “I’d like to talk with you about the possibility of doing an internship with your organization.”
  11. Send thank you letters to employers who interviewed you.
