"Gaining a career in the broadcasting field is very competitive in this day and age; so having experience in the field, along with a major in communications, is very important. With help from the U of M career services department I was able to obtain an internship with WREG-news channel 3. Through this internship I will learn hands-on the different aspects of news media (on camera and off). Learning these aspects of the business can produce great success in my career later on in life. I am very blessed to have this opportunity and to live up to the tiger motto. Dreamers.Thinkers.Doers."

How do I find an Internship?

Start early! Begin your search at least a year before you plan to do an internship.
Consult with your academic advisor—see the list of Internship Contacts.
Develop your resume and cover letter and have them critiqued by Career Services. Developing Your Resume
Create a profile in eRecruiting and upload your resume to learn about on campus interviews and receive emails about new internship opportunities.

Sharpen your interviewing skills via a Career Services mock interview. How to Prepare for an Interview
Participate in the Uof M Career and Internship Fairs to talk with employers who are seeking interns.
Network! Let friends, family, current/former employers, and classmates know of your interest in an internship.
Use Google.com or another search engine to locate possible internships.
Research organization(s) of interest and say: “I’d like to talk with you about the possibility of doing an internship with your organization.”
Send thank you letters to employers who interviewed you.
