Nailah Roberts
Department of Art and Design
Graphic Design, Junior
What inspired you to become a CCFA Student Ambassador, and what do you enjoy most
about the role?
What inspired me was the amazing classmates, professors, and alumni I've met. Being
a graphic design major, I have been around a group of like-minded people in my major,
and hearing about their lives and art was so fascinating to me. So, when the opportunity
arised to meet more people in the entire department of CCFA and do a similar process,
I immediately applied to become one.
How has being a Student Ambassador helped you grow as a leader or professional?
Being a Student Ambassador has helped me grow to be more outspoken and to navigate
different conversations with a vast group of diverse individuals of all ages, races,
and backgrounds, with the goal to help and be a source of direction for them.
What’s the most unexpected skill you’ve learned while being an ambassador that you
never saw coming?
I learned how to talk to professors and learn about them on a normal level. I think
most of the student body currently views professors as above them and puts them on
an impossible pedestal. In reality, they're just as humanly flawed and interesting
as the rest of us "simple students". They just got different responsibilities, and
we should ask more questions to learn about them as people, not only as the pillars
of knowledge. They aren't your friends, but don't be a stranger.
If your role as an ambassador came with a superpower, what would it be, and how would
you use it to help CCFA?
Reality Artistry, of course! The ability to read and project art into reality would
be fun with an on and off switch. I could help people with their ideas by expanding
on ideas visually! I could also create temporary little mini helpers for students
and professors alike. There are quite literally unlimited possibilities, and the best
part is that it isn't limited by my own imagination! I get to use everyone's imagination!
Where are you from, and how has your hometown influenced your academic journey at
CCFA?
I am from Dover, Delaware, but I consider Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland a
part of my home as well.
My hometown affects my academic journey quite a bit due to the fact that I'm so far
from home! I just get a little homesick.
What was the defining moment or event that led you to pursue a degree at CCFA?
When I won an award with the Scholastic Art National Competition in high school! I
was very happy and shocked. It's really eye-opening that people actually liked my
work enough to give me an award for it and it gave me enough confidence to pursue
it on a professional level.
If you could host your own CCFA-themed game show, what would it be called, and what
would the grand prize be?
Just to name a few options:
- Chewing Crayons For Attention - Grand Prize is being crowned Ms./Mr. CCFA like in a beauty pageant.
- Creating Caffeine-Fueled Addiction - Grand Prize is a year's supply of the best, most potent caffeine to the winner's liking. For the all-nighters for the creation of their art!
- Constantly Creating, Forming Arthritis - Grand Prize being a hand surgery, and a year's supply of art for the winner's chosen medium!
- Currently Cost Far Above The Budget - the Grand Prize is being the winner's debt being paid off.
How has your time as an ambassador shaped your connection to the CCFA community and
your future goals?
I have been very interconnected with the CCFA community because of this job! Being
able to answer the questions of fellow students and help them guide them is something
I would never be able to do without the knowledge of this job.
