Our Campus

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood of Memphis, Tenn., the UofM is a Carnegie R1 institution. What you learn here builds a sense of intellectual engagement that will empower you to make a difference in life and throughout your career. Founded in 1912, we welcome approximately 20,000 students to campus every year. Students and faculty come from all over the world to be a part of the UofM experience. The campus boasts 25 Chairs of Excellence and five state-approved Centers of Excellence. The University of Memphis main campus offers eight different communities including Graduate and Student Family Housing for graduate students or students who are married and/or have families. International Students transitioning and starting their collegiate careers are also directly supported by our Department.

Shelby Farms Park is perfect for outdoor recreation — biking, running, kayaking, paddle-boarding, horseback riding, picnicking, or trying the Go Ape zipline course. They have great festivals and celebrations year round.

The Greenline offers an easy, scenic trail from Midtown to the park. The Greenline is a rails-to-trails project that transformed an unused railroad line into one of Tennessee's favorite trails.

Walk or bike across Big River Crossing, the longest pedestrian bridge across the Mississippi, enjoy sunset river views, catch the Mighty Lights' nightly bridge light show, explore Mud Island, or grab photos at the iconic MEMPHIS letters.

Memphis offers a rich blend of art, music and cultural experiences perfect for students, with attractions such as the National Civil Rights Museum, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Rock ’n’ Soul Museum, and Sun Studio. For visual art lovers, the Brooks Museum of Art and the Dixon Gallery & Gardens offer diverse exhibitions and creative spaces, while Crosstown Arts provides contemporary art galleries and performances within the Crosstown Concourse. Rounding out the list, the Metal Museum offers a unique look at metal artistry through exhibitions, live demonstrations and scenic riverfront views.
