Interdisciplinary Public Health Certificate

This is a School of Public Health initiative. 

The University of Memphis School of Public Health Interdisciplinary Certificate and Dual Enrollment programs provide the opportunity for high school students (Dual Enrollment Program) and current undergraduate students (Certificate and Dual Enrollment Program) to take courses at the University of Memphis School of Public Health. Students who later attend the University of Memphis and declare their undergraduate major within the School of Public Health will have the option to transfer credits earned from these courses.

FAQs 

Who is eligible to participate in the certificate program? 

The participating student must be a junior (11th grade) or a senior (12th grade) in high school or college undergraduate. 

 

Where are the classes offered? 

This certificate program is offered online only. 

 

What is the deadline for applications? 

December 1st, 2023 

 

Do I need to submit a statement of purpose? 

No, this is not required for participation. 

 

How much does this program cost? 

The cost is $3500. Payment is due at the time of application. There is no deposit required.  

 

What is included in the cost of the program? 

The cost covers tuition of 5 classes. Students will also be invited to participate in academic and career development workshops hosted by the School of Public Health. Students will also be invited to attend the Dean’s Grand Rounds series, featuring global experts in the field of public health. Students will be included in membership with the Public Health Student Association as Affiliate Members.  

 

What are the benefits of this program? 

Students will have the opportunity to start building a career in public health, make a community impact, address real 21st century public health challenges, and engage with national and international experts in public health. 

 

Is there a payment schedule? 

We are unable to take partial payments. Full payment is due at the time of application. 

 

Can I get a refund if I change my mind? 

This certificate program is non-refundable. All sales are final, and the University of Memphis does not offer any money-back guarantees. Participants recognize and agree that they shall not be entitled to a refund for any purchase under any circumstances.  

 

What are the classes in the certificate program?  

The classes the students will be completing are Environmental and Climate Health; Social Determinants and Health Disparities; Health Data Analytics and Informatics; Global Health Crises and Milestones; and Public Health in Action. 

 

Can I transfer classes in this program to another university? 

The classes in the Interdisciplinary Public Health Certificate are non-credit courses. As such, participation in the program will not be transferrable to another university. 

 

Can I apply my certificate to classes at the University of Memphis? 

Courses successfully completed may be considered for transfer into the University of Memphis School of Public Health undergraduate degree program. 

 

What happens if I do not enroll at the University of Memphis School of Public Health? 

Students will earn credit towards completion of the Interdisciplinary Public Health Certificate that may be applied towards a program at the University of Memphis School of Public Health. However, students who do not enroll in a degree seeking program at the University of Memphis School of Public Health will be unable to transfer earned certificate credit to another school or program.
