Student Toolkit

Tigers Excel is built on three core pillars, each designed to empower students through experiential learning. Focus area three is to develop resources to guide students in articulating and understanding the skills and knowledge gained through on-campus internships and co-curricular activities as a component of career readiness. Part of this student toolkit will include the development of the Tigers Excel Career Development Digital Pathway. The pathway will be robust and allow students to work at their own pace towards competency development. Completion of pathway tasks will include reflection on experiences and the integration of one or more NACE competencies into that experience, attendance of different lectures or events, and participation in different organizations or opportunities on campus, including on-campus internships. Through this structure, the UofM will be able to help students articulate the value of their education to employers. In addition to providing skills for articulation, students will also have tangible and achievable steps to obtain career ready skills for the first time.

Implementation action items to support student toolkit and Career Development Digital Pathway:

  • Establish a Student Resources and Badging Committee to provide support, structure, and guidance around aligning on-campus internships and co-curricular experiences with competency development.
  • Develop the Career Development Digital Pathway to track and reward experiential learning and competency development in the context of on-campus internships and co-curricular engagement.
  • Create training structure and workshops to:
    • Help students recognize the value of career competency development
    • Equip faculty and staff to effectively support students in on-campus internships and co-curricular activities.
  • Develop a student toolkit with a comprehensive set of resources and materials designed to help students develop and articulate the learned competencies from their co-curricular experiences and on-campus internships and leverage digital badges.
