UofM College of Education Strengthens Teacher Pipeline Through Partnerships with 14 School Districts

September 25, 2025 – The University of Memphis College of Education (COE) has finalized agreements with 14 school districts across West Tennessee, expanding opportunities for teacher candidates to complete internships and residencies in K–12 classrooms.

The COE is excited to renew its longstanding partnerships with Arlington, Bells, Collierville, Germantown, Gestalt, Jackson Madison, Memphis Business Academy, Memphis Shelby County Schools, Millington, Tipton and University Schools. The College is also excited to announce three new partnerships with Haywood County, Soulsville and Memphis School of Excellence.

The partnerships reflect COE’s role as an engaged college committed to working hand in hand with schools, families and communities to prepare educators who are ready to meet the needs of every student.

“This agreement is a tremendous step forward in preparing the next generation of teachers,” said Dean Mike Miller of the College of Education. “By working closely with our school district partners, we can ensure that our students are not only ready to lead classrooms on day one but also deeply connected to the communities they will serve.”

Through these partnerships, teacher candidates will have placements in schools spanning urban, suburban and rural communities, where they can complete their field experience, pre-residency and clinical teaching. The College collaborates with district partners to develop these agreements, ensuring placements are meaningful and mutually supportive.

These experiences mirror COE’s successful residency model which integrates coursework with immersive teaching practice.

The collaboration underscores UofM’s commitment to student success and regional impact strengthening the teacher pipeline and ensuring high quality learning experiences for children across West Tennessee.
