WGST Program Requirements

Credit Requirements

The graduate certificate program requires the completion of twelve credits.

  • Three credits must be met by satisfactory completion of the core course requirement. Core course options appear below.
  • Nine remaining credits will be selected in consultation with the Women’s and Gender Studies Director prior to enrolling in a class to assure the course includes material relevant to the WGST program. Please note that content for some of the courses below may vary depending on the instructor and will not always be pertinent to the study of women and gender.
    • One course must be selected from the humanities group and one course from the social science group.
    • No course may be counted twice to fulfill a course or program requirement. For example, the core course cannot also fulfill the social science elective course requirement. A student must take the core course and a social science elective.
    • Other graduate courses not listed below that incorporate women, gender, sexuality, and/or the family will be considered for inclusion in the program as approved electives. Students should contact the WGST Director for approval.

Additional Course Requirements and Restrictions

  • No more than two courses at the 6000-level may count towards the WGST certificate.
  • Because the program is interdisciplinary, at least one class of WGST certificate coursework must be taken outside of the major department.

GPA Requirement

In order to continue in the program, students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
