Forms and Applications

Apply to the Program

Students currently admitted to a graduate program at the University of Memphis or other university, as well as students already holding a graduate degree, may apply for admission to the Graduate Certificate Program in Women’s and Gender Studies. All students, regardless of status at UofM or another institution, must apply for the certificate by beginning a new application here: UofM Graduate School Application.

To apply, students submit:

  • Transcript of undergraduate degree program and transcripts of prior and current graduate study
  • A letter describing reasons why the student is interested in pursuing a graduate certificate in the area of Women’s and Gender Studies and how the program corresponds with prior experience and anticipated career plans
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member

For students currently enrolled in a graduate program, a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8 is required for admission.

If you have previously applied to a University of Memphis graduate program, you do not need to pay the application fee. Please reach out to Christie Rakestraw for a fee waiver or with applications questions.

For more helpful information on applying, see Admissions Procedures.

WGST Course Substitutions

Due to graduate course rotations and individual student needs, course substitutions may be necessary for graduate students to complete the WGST certificate program. To have a course substitution request considered, please reach out to Dr. Goudsouzian with the course information and a syllabus prior to registration. The course will be reviewed and, if approved, a Course Substitution Form will need to be filled out and emailed to Dr. Goudsouzian for signature and submission to the graduate school.

If a student has previous coursework that may count for the WGST program, course substitution requests should follow the procedures listed above. Please make sure to send a syllabus with your request!

Apply to Graduate

For the WGST program designation to appear on your diploma and final transcript, you will need to closely follow the directions provided by the Graduate School. This process includes applying to graduate in the MyMemphis system and submitting a Graduate Candidacy Form for the WGST certificate by the posted deadlines. Please note, you will need to fill out a candidacy form for your main program of study AND your WGST certificate (two candidacy forms!).

  • Your candidacy forms will be routed through Softdocs Etrieve – please monitor this system and process to ensure that forms are submitted correctly. If there is a delay, check your draft box – this is a common mistake in the submission process. More info and help can be found here: Candidacy Forms
  • You will need a DocuSign signature from Dr. Goudsouzian for your graduation application to be approved. If you need help with the DocuSign process, see DocuSign Instructions.

It is responsibility of the WGST certificate student to meet the posted deadlines and complete the necessary forms for graduation. If you run into any trouble applying to graduate, please check in with our graduation analyst, Peggy Callahan, for help.
