Counseling Program Admissions

In order to be admitted into the Counseling Program a prospective student must submit:
- An application to the University of Memphis Graduate School which includes the following:
- Complete Formal Graduate School application
- Official undergraduate transcripts
- Official graduate transcripts (if applicable)
- 3 references- these should be from professors and employers
- Engage in an in-person interview with department faculty (to be scheduled)
- Required GRE minimum scores
- GRE scores: Verbal 380 and Quantitative 420
- Revised GRE scores: Verbal 145 and Quantitative 140
Important Deadlines for Completed Application Packets
Masters Degree Admission Deadlines
- Fall - March 1
- Spring - October 1
Certificate in Career and College Counseling Admission Deadlines
- Fall - March 1
- Spring - October 1
Doctoral Degree Admission Deadline
- Fall - March 1
It is strongly recommended that application packets be submitted in early February or early September which includes having taken the Graduate Record Examination several weeks prior to the deadline dates in order to receive full consideration by the counseling faculty. A delay in submitting application materials could result in not being considered for admission until the following semester.
