Dr. Kate Sorensen published in Issues in Accounting Education
Dr. Kate Sorensen, associate professor in the Crews School of Accountancy, was recently published in Issues in Accounting Education for her paper titled “Social Gamification in Online Accounting Courses and the Impact on Course Engagement.”
Online courses have increased in popularity due to the flexibility they allow, especially during the disruption caused by COVID-19. Avanti Pandit led collaborative project management class between UofM and PMI Memphis
Avanti Pandit, assistant professor of teaching in the Department of Management Information Systems, worked closely with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Memphis Chapter to successfully run yet another iteration of a collaborative project management experience in her MIS 3885 class.
This collaborative effort integrates the experiences and business acumen of PMI Memphis industry members as judges, mentors and facilitators. Through this experience, the MIS students learn the behavioral principles of project management and are able to demonstrate competency in value-driven processes.
Every semester, the top performing student team is invited to present their project
at a PMI Memphis chapter meeting. At the most recent meeting, two students from the
winning team, who were mentored by industry practitioner Mr. M. Reza Ziai from FedEx,
presented their project. Thank you to all the PMI Memphis members and affiliates who
so generously volunteer their time to mentor our students and provide a real-world
perspective in the practice of project management.
