Nursing and Dance: Jara Jawneh Finds Balance Through Art and Science
Jara Jawneh, an N5 student at the Loewenberg College of Nursing (LCON), is not just excelling in nursing but also pursuing her passion for dance as a minor. Juggling two demanding fields might seem overwhelming to some, but for Jara, dance serves as her outlet and key to staying grounded amidst the rigorous challenges of nursing school.
"During my journey in the program, I realized that nursing is such a vigorous yet rewarding field, and in order to maintain longevity, I have to take care of myself. Dance helps me do that by serving as a way to reconnect with my mind and body."
For Jara, dance is more than just a form of art—it's a way to maintain her mental wellness and find balance. “Nursing can be intense,” she shares. “But dance gives me the mental clarity and peace I need to recharge and stay focused on my goals.”
As she prepares for a future in healthcare, Jara’s dedication to both nursing and dance reflects her belief in the power of holistic health. “Just as I want to help my future patients find balance in their lives, I’ve found my own balance through dance.”
"Just as patients are more than their diagnoses, nurses are more than just healthcare workers. They are people with different needs and interests. Disregarding those things would hinder the nurses' ability to be the best they can be, just as disregarding the psycho-social needs of patients would hinder their ability to heal."
Jara’s journey is an inspiring reminder of how integrating passion with education can lead to personal growth and professional success. Whether in the classroom, the clinic, or the dance studio, she embodies dedication, creativity, and the importance of mental well-being.
