Parking Information for New Employees

Welcome to the University of Memphis! Parking & Transportation Services (PTS), an auxiliary unit within the Department of Business Services, manages all University-owned parking lots and is responsible for administering the Parking and Traffic Regulations of the University of Memphis.

All vehicles on all campuses require a permit.  Whether you are employed on the main campus, Park Avenue campus, Downtown Law School, Lambuth or Millington, you will need to purchase a permit if you intend to park a vehicle on campus. Please see the applicable section below to learn what parking options are available to you.  See attached map for reference. Also please read the “Important Information for All Permit-Holders” section at the bottom.

Main Campus

  • General parking is $24.94 per month.  General lots are located on the outskirts of campus and are not gated.  They are used by students, employees and visitors.  Parking is on a first-come first-served basis, thus availability is largely dependent on the number of students parking in the lot.  A general permit-holder can park in any general lot on any campus.  (Please note: The internal streets on the main campus that are not gated are NOT general parking.  They are restricted for student residents or employees with accessible parking privileges.) General permits can be purchased in the PTS office located in room 120 on the ground floor of the Zach Curlin garage.
  • Priority parking is $43.70 per month.  Priority lots are located closer to the center of campus and are gated.  Some lots are for employees only, while some are for employees as well as students.  The garages on campus are considered priority lots as well and are used by employees, students and visitors. We monitor sales very closely to prevent over-selling priority lots, therefore space is typically available to all priority permit-holders. A priority permit-holder must specify which priority lot they want to use; however it can be changed at any time (based on availability – see info on waiting lists below). In addition to having access to one priority lot, priority permit-holders may also park in any general lot on any campus. Priority permits can be purchased in the PTS office located in room 120 on the ground floor of the Zach Curlin garage.
  • Reserved parking is $63.37 per month.  Reserved spaces are centrally located on campus. There is a limited number of reserved spaces installed and they are available only to employees.  These spaces are heavily monitored and may only be used by a vehicle with the appropriate permit.  In addition to having access to one reserved space, reserved permit-holders may also park in any general lot on any campus.  Please contact tigerpark@memphis.edu to request a reserved space.
  • Accessible parking is $24.94 per month for access to non-gated areas or $43.70 per month for access to gated and non-gated areas. Accessible spaces are located throughout campus to accommodate employees with disabilities. These spaces are very heavily monitored and may only be used by vehicles with the appropriate permit. Severe penalties are imposed on unauthorized vehicles as well as fraudulent use of permits, plates or placards.  Accessible permit-holders with access to non-gated areas may park in any non-gated space (whether it’s marked as an accessible space or not) with the exception of reserved spaces. Accessible permit-holders with access to gated and non-gated areas may park in any space on campus (whether it’s marked as an accessible space or not) with the exception of reserved spaces. The quickest and best method to obtain accessible parking privileges on campus is to take your state handicap placard or your handicap license plate number along with a copy of the registration form issued with the placard or license plate to the PTS office. The registration MUST be in the employee’s name.
  • Evening-only priority parking is $28.40 per month.  Evening-only access begins at 4:30 and ends at midnight.  An evening-only priority permit-holder must specify which priority lot they want to use; however it can be changed at any time (based on availability – see info on waiting lists below). In addition to having access to one priority lot, evening-only priority permit-holders may also park in any general lot on any campus. Evening-only priority permits can be purchased in the PTS office located in room 120 on the ground floor of the Zach Curlin garage.

Important Information for All Permit-Holders

  • PTS office hours are Monday thru Friday 8am – 4:30 pm.  Please note we cannot process credit card transactions after 4 pm.  We are located in room 120 on the ground floor of the Zach Curlin garage facing East. Our mailing address is 505 Zach Curlin St Memphis, TN 38152.
  • Waiting Lists are used for high-demand lots and reserved spaces.  If a lot is full then an employee may add his/her name to the waiting list for that lot by visiting the PTS office or emailing a request to tigerpark@memphis.edu. Human Resources developed a formula for prioritizing these requests based on the employee’s pay plan and length of service.  Full details are available online. The availability for these lots is reviewed periodically, and an email notification will be sent to an eligible employee if/when space becomes available.
  • Lost or stolen permits must be reported by visiting the PTS office, emailing tigerpark@memphis.edu or calling 901-678-2212. There is a $10.00 replacement fee for all lost or stolen permits.
  • Parking fees are not prorated; however, we don’t charge for the current month if purchased on or after the 25th.  If purchased prior to the 25th of the month, employees will be charged for the entire month.  Some employees are eligible for payroll deduction, meaning the parking fees will be automatically deducted from the employee’s check.  Employees may also choose to pay monthly (from 1 to 12 months in advance) if desired.
  • To cancel parking payroll deduction, please visit our office or contact us at tigerpark@memphis.edu. Cancellations must be requested prior to the first day of the month to prevent being charged.  Additionally, the cancelled permit must be returned to our office.
  • Mailing addresses should be kept current so that permits and decals are received on time.
  • Motorcycle permits are available for a one-time fee of $10 per permit. The permit may be affixed to the vehicle itself or attached to the license plate.  They may be parked in any motorcycle space or regular space. Operating these vehicles on any surface other than designated streets or parking areas is expressly prohibited. Parking on sidewalks or chaining these vehicles to lampposts and other similar structures is specifically prohibited.

Thank you for choosing the University of Memphis and don’t hesitate to contact our office with any questions or concerns.
