What Is Upward Bound?
Upward Bound (UB) is federally funded TRiO pre-college program to assists eligible students in their efforts to successfully complete high school and obtain a college education. UB provides high school students with comprehensive services designed to promote life-long learning and self-awareness. Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which either parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.
Eligible participants must meet TRiO low-income guidelines or be first-generation college students, meaning neither parent has obtained a bachelor's degree. Participants must attend one of the following high schools:
- Kirby
- Melrose
- Sheffield
