FAQs for Academic Alert, Notice, and Deferment Students
Q: Do you all process readmission applications for students not in Good Standing that are seeking to return to the UofM?
A: No. All readmission applications are processed through the Office of Admissions.
Q: Do you all handle financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals?
A: No. We do not process ANY financial aid. All questions related to financial aid eligibility- including where to submit SAP appeals need to be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.
Q: Do I have to see Academic Coaching and Support Services before I can meet with my advisor?
A: No. It is not mandatory that a student meets with us before they see their advisor. However, we do need to talk to them before the semester starts.
Q: Can the students on Academic Alert, Academic Notice or returning from Academic Deferment Drop or Withdraw from a class?
A: Yes. Academically, it is better for a student to drop or withdraw from a course because earning a “D” or “F” will have a negative impact on their GPA and possibly lead to Academic Deferment. However, we always recommend that a student have a conversation with their Academic Advisor and Financial Aid to discuss those implications and make an informed decision prior to making any schedule changes.
Q: Can a student that is on Academic Deferment attend another university until they can come back to UofM?
A: That is up to the other institution they are interested in attending.
Q: I am a readmitted student and I have an Academic Coaching and Support Services (ACSS) hold. When will it be lifted?
A: We will not lift any ACSS holds until a student has been officially readmitted to the university. All ACSS holds are automatically lifted once we have been notified of their readmission by the Office of Admissions. It typically takes Admissions up to 48 hours to process applications once they have been submitted.
Q: How do I get an Academic Fresh Start?
A: We do not process Academic Fresh Starts. The Registrar’s Office oversees that process.
Q: What is the Academic Renewal and do I qualify?
A: Your academic advisor is a great resource to get up-to-date information and assist you in that process. In addition, more information can be found on memphis.edu/casa/coachandsupport.
Q: How can a student get enrolled in ACAD 2200?
A: ACAD 2200 is for students who are on First Academic Notice. Those students will be provided with the CRN’s and should register for ACAD 2200 along with their other courses. Students must be enrolled in at least one other course to enroll in ACAD 2200.
