Interested in becoming a Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) Peer Coach?
In this role, you will work one-on-one with fellow undergraduate students to support their academic success. You will guide them in strengthening skills such as time management, organization, study strategies, note-taking, goal-setting, and effective habits to support academic success. Coaching sessions last 30–45 minutes and may be scheduled or walk-in, occurring once or on a regular basis. In addition to offering practical strategies, you will connect students with campus resources and contribute to building a stronger support system within the University.

This role is a great opportunity to grow as a leader, deepen your own academic skills, and make a meaningful impact on your peers' success.

Compensation
$15 per hour 

CASA Peer Coach Job Requirements
Students interested in applying to be a Peer Coach should meet all of the following requirements, including availability to serve for one full academic year (Fall and Spring), with the potential for summer employment. 

Required Qualifications 
Applicants must:
• Be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Memphis
• Be classified as a Junior or Senior
• Have earned at least 24 credit hours at the University of Memphis
• Be in academic Good Standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.00
• Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills
• Possess strong organizational and time management skills
• Be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
• Note: Prior experience with tutoring, mentoring, or leadership is preferred but not required

Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) Graduate Assistantship
Interested in becoming a CASA Graduate Coach?
CASA Graduate Coaches provide academic coaching to support undergraduate students in navigating their academic journey. Academic coaching is a personalized, strengths-based approach that guides students in setting goals, managing time, staying motivated, and maintaining balance. Coaches offer encouragement, accountability, and a supportive space for reflection and growth. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
• Provide one-on-one academic coaching for undergraduate students and designated subpopulations, meeting throughout the semester to develop and monitor individualized success plans.
• Support students in overcoming academic, social, and personal challenges by offering appropriate referrals to campus resources.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all coaching sessions, including session notes and attendance reports.
• May serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for ACAD 2200: Academic Success Seminar.
• Participate in initial and ongoing training and professional development sessions to enhance coaching skills and stay updated on campus resources.
• Collaborate with CASA staff to support outreach events, workshops, and initiatives that promote academic success.
• Assist with additional support duties as assigned.

Work Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits: 
• 20 hours per week, scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
• Tuition support for up to 9 credit hours per term
• $15 per hour (paid bi-weekly)
• Potential summer Graduate Assistant (GA) position available
• Health insurance available

Tutoring at CASA is a win-win experience for both tutors and students! Join the team to earn the benefits of learning with other students. Tutors are assigned to Learning Centers based on subject expertise and scheduling needs of each location.

CASA Tutor Training:

  • Must attend all tutor training sessions
  • Training counts as scholarship service
  • Reserve a seat by contacting us at casa-tutoring@memphis.edu

How can I become a Writing and Communication Services consultant?

If you are interested in becoming a WCS consultant, please send Dr. Meredith Boulden a copy of your current resume or CV, a letter of interest explaining why you would like to work for the WCS, and a 300-500 word teaching or tutoring philosophy that details your approach to working with students. Applications from all students from any major will be considered, though preference will be given to upper classmen and graduate students from the Departments of Communication and English. Teaching and/or tutoring experience is a bonus, but not required.
