For release:  September 22, 2014

Four Fogelman College professors were recognized for their excellent teaching skills and their success in mentoring students outside of the classroom at the College's fall faculty and staff meeting.

Rajiv Grover, dean of Fogelman College, established different awards as a way to encourage and recognize excellence amongst staff and faculty. The awards were the Engaged Creative Teaching Excellence Award for both undergraduate and graduate levels, the Teaching Beyond the Classroom Excellence Award, and the Research Mentoring Excellence Award. Each award winner was recognized at the fall faculty and staff meeting in front of his/her peers. Additionally, each winner received a plaque and a check for $1,000.

The Engaged Creative Teaching Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member who takes the classroom experience into dimensions that enhance students' understanding of course content and their ability to apply that content to the analysis and solution of practical, real-world business, and social problems. Dr. Greg Boller, professor in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, received this award for teaching at undergraduate level. Dr. Michael Cervetti, an instructor of the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, received this award for teaching at the graduate level.

The Teaching Beyond the Classroom Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member who excels at involving students in academically and professionally enriching activities beyond the classroom. These professors go the extra mile to establish relationships with students that evince the faculty member's concern that his or her students obtain meaningful employment upon graduation, advance in their careers and lead happy, healthy, productive lives. Dr. Irvin Tankersley, professor in the Department of Accounting, received this award.

Finally, the Research Mentoring Excellence Award recognizes faculty members who mentor FCBE doctoral or master's students on research projects that yield A+ rated journal publications (per FCBE's journal ranking policy) with both faculty and student(s) being joint authors. Dr. David Allen, professor in the Department of Management, received this award.
