About Us

SIX SCHOOLS, ONE MISSION

The University Schools - An Innovative School District compendium serves over 1,000 students from all 36 zip codes across the Memphis - Shelby County community at four schools and two school partnerships. While our schools were first established over 100 years ago as a training site for our teacher training programs, the full "compendium" was established in 2019 to ensure a full path for children from birth through high school graduation.

The University Schools, as public schools, have no academic requirements for entry, consistently rank in the top five percent of all K-12 schools in the state of Tennessee for both achievement and growth, and offer a wide range of extended learning and athletic opportunities for students.

Our three early childhood programs are all accredited and provide scholarship options for students who do not have the financial means to pay tuition for attendance.

Each of our schools is staffed by UofM faculty and staff, a majority of whom hold advanced degrees, and is a training, or laboratory school, for programs and residency support for teachers and practitioners at the University. The schools also host ongoing research conducted  across the colleges of our Carnegie R1 designated university.

VISION

To provide a transformative and innovative educational landscape where all students and educators belong, flourish, and inspire positive change.

MISSION

University Schools provide the children of our community with educational experiences that enhance their development from birth to graduation and promote dynamic research, collaborative partnerships and innovative practices.
