About Dr. Meekins

Dr. Myra Meekins is an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the University of Memphis Lambuth campus and serves as the director of curriculum for the program. She graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, earned her transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Regis University, and completed a PhD in Orthopedics and Sports Science at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. She is board certified as a clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy. She also completed a clinical movement system fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Therapy and an orthopaedic manual therapy fellowship at the Manual Therapy Institute. In addition, she is a nationally board-certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC).

Dr. Meekins has practiced in multiple clinical settings including orthopedics, acute care/inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and home health. Before joining the University of Memphis, Dr. Meekins was faculty in the DPT program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, Tennessee for over ten years and in the DPT program at Arkansas State University for almost five years.

With over fifteen years of academic experience and almost thirty years of clinical experience, Dr. Meekins brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. She has served on multiple committees both locally and nationally that include the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association, the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy for the American Physical Therapy Association, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy.

Her current research interests include movement impairment analysis, clinical decision making, and health and wellness.
