Info for New Undergraduate Students

  • Confirm Your Intent to Enroll
Your seat is saved, but not forever! Be sure to confirm your intent to accept/decline your music admissions offer by May 1, 2021 (National Enrollment Intent Day). Instead of requiring you to pay a deposit like some other schools, we simply ask that you complete the School of Music's Enrollment Intent Form.

  • Accept Your Music Scholarship
Did you receive a music performance scholarship offer? Congrats! To accept (or decline) your offer, simply log into your MyMemphis portal and locate the "Account$" tab. From there, select "Financial Aid Awards" and then the appropriate Aid Year to review and accept your awards and the terms for your scholarship offer. After you acknowledge the terms of your award, the "Accept Award Offer" button will become available and you can click it to accept your respective scholarship(s).

  • Register for New Student Orientation (NSO)
All first-time freshman students are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO is your OFFICIAL starting point as a Memphis Tiger, and where you'll be advised and register for your fall courses as a music major. Choose a date that is specific for Music Majors (Dates TBD). These dates fill up quickly, so don't delay! Register at this link: https://www.memphis.edu/nso/information/nso_index.php.
  • Complete Music Theory and/or Piano Placements
If you have had at least 1 year (in the last 3 years) of formal or private theory training or piano lessons, we encourage you to do a theory and/or piano diagnostic. This will help us determine if you should take a higher level of theory and/or class piano. Diagnostics should be scheduled well in advance of your NSO date.
  • Apply for On-Campus Housing
If you plan to live in an on-campus residence hall, you will need to complete an application with Residence Life, and pay all required application fees and deposits. Meal plans are not required, but can also be purchased if desired. Meal plans are available for both residential AND commuter students. For assistance, visit the Residence Life website or contact their office via phone at (901) 678-2295 or by e-mail at housing@memphis.edu.
    • Join the Music Scholars Living Learning Community - Incoming freshman applicants who are fully admitted to the School of Music as music majors or minors are eligible to participate in the Music Scholars Living-Learning Community (Music Scholars LLC). Spaces are limited! If you would like to reserve a spot in the Music Scholars LLC, you must select this option on your housing application.

  • Request Your Campus ID Card
When you have registered for your courses for the current school semester, a Campus (ID) card may be requested by logging into your campus card account. Once logged in, click the link that says Submit New Photo and follow the directions. The Campus Card Office is located at 115 Wilder Tower on the main campus.

  • Ensemble Placements
School of Music Choral, Wind and Percussion ensemble placement auditions are typically held during the week before classes begin. Check the website for detailed instructions, repertoire, and to sign up for a time slot. Jazz and Commercial Music ensemble placement auditions are held during the first week of classes.
