Earning your Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting online from the University of Memphis gives you access to the same expert faculty who teach on campus, delivered through a flexible and fully accredited online format. As part of the AACSB‑accredited Fogelman College of Business & Economics—the only business school in the Memphis region with this distinction—the School of Accountancy offers a high‑quality education designed for students preparing for today’s fast‑growing accounting field.

The online BBA in Accounting builds a strong foundation in taxation, auditing, financial accounting, and the role of accounting in organizational decision‑making. The curriculum emphasizes technical proficiency along with critical thinking, problem‑solving, communication, and ethical business practices in a global environment.

Graduates are prepared to pursue the CPA exam, accounting licensure, and a wide range of career paths, including certified public accountant, financial manager, budget analyst, actuary, or Certified Financial Planner (CFP). The program requires 120 credit hours and can be completed fully online.

The online Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Accounting at the University of Memphis includes general education courses, business core requirements, and upper‑division accounting coursework. Students must meet minimum grade and GPA standards throughout the program.

 

University General Education Requirements (41 credit hours)

Students must complete the University General Education Program. For the B.B.A., the following courses are required within the Gen Ed categories:

  • Mathematics: MATH 1710, MATH 1830, MATH 1421, or MATH 1910 (minimum grade C‑)

  • Social/Behavioral Sciences: ECON 2010 and ECON 2020

  • Accounting majors must earn at least a B‑ in ACCT 2010

 

College & B.B.A. Requirements

Lower Division Business Core

Accounting majors must earn no grade below C‑ and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in the major. (Other business majors require a minimum 2.25 GPA and no grade below C.)

  • ACCT 2020 – Managerial Accounting (3) — Not required for Accounting majors

Accountants and auditors are projected to see 5% job growth from 2024 to 2034, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Each year, about 124,200 openings are expected, largely due to retirements and workers shifting into other fields.

Earning Potential

Accountants and auditors earned a median annual wage of $81,680 in May 2024, close to the broader category of financial specialists at $82,140, and well above the $49,500 median for all U.S. occupations. Half of workers in the field earned more than this amount, while the lowest 10% made under $52,780 and the highest 10% earned over $141,420.
