Social Work

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work prepares students for entrance into the profession of social work as generalist practitioners. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and requires a departmental application for admissions. Students typically complete the departmental application in the SWRK 2011 course. Social Work majors may choose a concentration in school social work that leads to school social work licensure in Tennessee and some other jurisdictions. Majors may qualify for admission into the Advanced Standing Master of Social Work track and finish the MSW in as little as one year. Majors are required to be available for synchronous class sessions for some courses. The BA in social work requires an in-person field placement with 400 contact hours. UofM Global social work majors should contact the undergraduate field coordinator early in junior year to begin discussing field placement options.

Students who want to be a social work major will need to declare “social science focus, pre-social work.”
