- Any student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours in the fall or spring semester or
at least 1 credit hour in the summer semester are eligible for counseling center services.
- Doctoral students working towards their dissertation are eligible for services if
they are enrolled in the dissertation credit and considered full-time students by
their program/graduate school.
- Comprehensive ADHD/LD Psychodiagnostic Assessments for Non‑Students (Age 16+): $750
To begin the assessment process, please attend an in‑person or virtual walk‑in appointment
available Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–3:00 PM, during standard University operating hours.
- The initial session (triage) is likely to take approximately 30 to 40 minutes with
filling out paperwork and seeing a therapist in which students should get an idea
about what type of services are recommended based on their particular concerns or
situation.
- Students do not need to make an appointment for a triage session: simply visit the
counseling center virtually or in-person at 214 Wilder Tower between 10:00 am and
3:00 pm. If there is a crisis during operating hours students can visit Wilder 214
or click on our virtual waiting room . After-hours counselors can be contacted via 901.678.2068 and dial 2 to speak to a crisis counselor. Click to learn more about our newly expanded

- Students who are seriously and immediately feeling like they may harm themselves or
someone else should call 911 or 901.678.HELP (4357) if on campus for immediate assistance.
- If you miss your appointment call the center or reach out directly to your assigned
therapist to reschedule your appointment.
- If you need to reschedule, please call the center at least 24 hours in advance to
ensure the appointment time is available to someone else.
- If you arrive 20 minutes or more after your appointment time you will not be able
to be seen that day and will need to reschedule.
- If you are less than 20 minute late for your scheduled appointment, you will be seen
as soon as possible and your appointment will have to be shortened.
- Students can participate in unlimited group therapy and workshops during their enrollment
at the UofM. Students may be scheduled for up to 6 individual or couples sessions
per academic semester, apart from summer session but also depending on student need,
scheduling availability, and professional judgment of the counseling staff.
- The center offers the Tiger Care Line, on-call counseling services for any students
that feel they are in crisis, have been victimized or simply feel that talking with
a counselor would be helpful. Students or faculty members who are concerned about
another student after hours may also utilize the service to gain support or guidance

- We know that the therapist and client style match is vital to the therapeutic process.
If a student makes a request to transfer from one therapist to another therapist,
we encourage the student to process their request with their current therapist before
a transfer is made. If the student’s concern cannot be resolved by meeting with their
current therapist, the student will be referred to utilize a triage appointment to
discuss their current presenting concerns and transfer request with clinician on triage
duty. Case reassignment will be conducted after the case being discussed with clinical
team.
- The Counseling Center is open Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM and 8:00 AM to
4:30 PM on Friday during the academic year.

- No information, including the fact that you've made an appointment or sought services,
is shared with anyone without your written consent. (The parents or guardians of a
student under 16 years of age do have legal access to records.) The Center complies
with all applicable laws and professional standards relating to the privacy of patient
information.
- There are, however, several exceptions to confidentiality:
- We are obligated by law to report suspected child abuse (sexual, physical, or emotional)
and neglect to the proper authorities.
- We are obligated by law to report suspected elder abuse to the proper authorities.
- We are obligated to take appropriate action if you represent a threat of harm to yourself
or to others, and we will take any necessary actions to prevent such harm from occurring.
- If you are involved in court matters, we may be required to release the record.
- Although students are welcome to share about preferences for counselor, scheduling
is based on a combination of clinical need, student scheduling availability and counselor
availability. Thus, students cannot always be assigned to a requested counselor.
- Yes, currently enrolled students have access to psychological testing services. Testing
sessions are usually four hours that use a variety of assessment tools that includes
a follow up feedback session.
- Psychodiagnostic/ Personality assessments are $150 and ADHD/Learning Disorder testing
are between $400 - $500
- University of Memphis Law Students seeking Bar exam accommodations for the July 2026
exam must be referred by April 15th, 2026

Unfortunately, due to current service demands, we are unable to accommodate requests
to interview SHCS staff for class assignments. Please note that our website contains
a great deal of information about our services, resources for students, etc. Other
