1. The “Spark”
My current research revolves around cognitive health of older adults and my interest in this research area began when I first learned how social determinants of health shape long-term outcomes for vulnerable populations and I could relate it to my personal life as I have a family member living with dementia for years now.
2. The “Journey”
I was initially set to become a physician so I can treat patients but my transition to public health started once I grasped the idea that I could prevent many people from suffering in the first place through my research works rather than treating patients one by one. Throughout the journey, other than aging and cognitive health, I had opportunity work in areas like youth mental health, workplace violence and digital health.
3. The “Big Picture”
In the next few years, I hope that my work contributes to improving how we identify and support high-risk older adults before crises occur. Whether through better screening tools, community programs, or policy insights, I want the research to help health systems and caregivers intervene earlier and more effectively.
4. The “Inspiration”
My biggest influence has been my mentor, who showed me that good research is not just about strong methods—it’s about empathy and understanding the stories behind the data. One lesson that stayed with me is the importance of asking “why” one more time, even when the answer seems clear. That mindset has helped me approach problems more creatively and thoughtfully.
5. The “Personal Touch”
One hobby that keeps me grounded is playing soccer. Even though I played the game semi-professionally in the past, now it helps me to reset mentally, build discipline, and maintain the stamina needed for long research days. The teamwork and patience the sport requires often remind me how collaborative and iterative research truly is.
