What Students Are Saying

Meghan Meadows Taylor, an epi doctoral student“I recently had the privilege to attend the IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2019) in Barcelona, Spain. My experience attending this conference was valuable to my time here in graduate school. I was able to present my research and receive valuable feedback on methodology and interpretation of my results in a real world context. The most meaningful aspect of this conference was enhancing my networking skills through meeting renowned experts in the lung cancer field. World leaders in lung cancer research were in attendance including physicians, nurses, researchers, scientists, patients, and advocates. It was inspiring to realize that we all had the same mission: to improve the conditions of lung cancer treatment and awareness around the globe. I was also able to learn from their current works to improve my research skills by gaining insight into new hypotheses to investigate. Along with improving my research skills, I thoroughly enjoyed the personal and social aspects of exploring the Catalan culture and its rich history. The multidisciplinary and cross-cultural nature of the conference fully captured the essence of public health. If it were not for the University of Memphis School of Public Health Epidemiology program, I would not have been able to participate in this wonderful opportunity.”

Rebecca Johnson“I chose the University of Memphis School of Public Health because of their commitment to an integrated and upstream approach to community-level public health issues. As someone earning dual Master's degrees, I am thrilled to be a part of the SPH here because of the value the professors place on collaboration. This collaborative approach is demonstrated in the classroom, through advising, as a part of the SPH Interdisciplinary Case Competition, and much more.”

Brigid Welsh“The University of Memphis School of Public Health has expanded my worldview and provided me with the tools necessary to make a positive impact on my community's health. The health systems and policy concentration courses helped me combine my passions for policy and upstream change with concrete skills for better understanding and improving health systems. All human systems impact health, and my experience in the MPH program has been invaluable in helping me understand how to advocate for changing those systems.”

“From the moment I walked through the door and met the faculty, I knew the University of Memphis's MHA program was where I was meant to be. Not only do the faculty come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, but each provides a unique perspective on the healthcare industry. Even greater, each member of the faculty is wholeheartedly invested in our professional development and success as early careerists. I believe that the U of M's MHA program provided me with an excellent education in the classroom while simultaneously fostering my professional development and growth out in the community. Through vigorous academic enrichment and by gaining real-world, first-hand experience outside of the classroom, I feel highly equipped to surpass expectations in my next role as an Administrative Fellow. I also truly believe I have made friendships and built relationships that will last a lifetime.”
