According to the World Health Organization (WHO), each year approximately 15 million babies are born prematurely (before 37 completed weeks of normal pregnancy).  Recent trends suggest this number will continue to rise year after year. 

Complications of prematurity are leading cause of death among children under 5 years of age, responsible for nearly 1 million deaths in 2015
