Accelerated Bachelor to Master of Public Health (ABM)

This program allows outstanding BSPH or undergraduate students to accelerate their path towards a Master of Public Health (MPH) by enrolling in graduate level courses during their junior and senior years. Students should consider the Accelerated Bachelor to Master of Public Health (ABM) early in their undergraduate career, in consultation with their academic advisors.

Working with the undergraduate academic advisor, undergraduates selected for this program enroll into a tailored course of study that will allow them to complete their bachelor’s degree while also earning credits toward their MPH.

Admission Information

Requirements:

Undergraduate students considering an accelerated graduate program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and have completed at least 60 credit hours, half of which should be public health courses relevant to the BSPH degree.  

To continue in the program past the BSPH, students must apply for full admission into the Graduate School and into the School of Public Health's MPH program. 
 
Students in ABM programs can apply up to 12 hours of graduate coursework to both their undergraduate and graduate programs. However, graduate coursework will not apply toward the undergraduate GPA. Once a student has received a grade of "B" or better in eligible ABM courses and been accepted into the SPH MPH program, credit for these courses will be applied to their transcript and counted toward their MPH.

Foundational 

  • Apply epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice.
  • Select quantitative and qualitative data collection methods appropriate for a given public health context.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming and software, as appropriate.
  • Interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice.
  • Discuss means by which structural bias, social inequities and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at organizational, community and societal levels.
  •  Assess population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities’ health.
  • Apply awareness of cultural values and practices to the design or implementation of public health policies or programs.
  • Design a population-based policy, program, project, or intervention.
  • Explain basic principles and tools of budget and resource management.
