At the forefront of advancing public health knowledge, our division is dedicated to exploring the intricate interplay of social, structural, and behavioral elements that significantly influence community well-being.

The SBS Division delves into the social, structural, and behavioral aspects of public health, training students to conduct impactful research, develop effective interventions, and engage in meaningful community health projects. Our commitment to unraveling the complexities to advance public health recognizes various determinants of health, shaping our approach to mitigating health disparities. Whether it’s examining risk factors for infectious disease or developing strategies to promote resilience, the SBS division helps improve health outcomes across the spectrum of the human lifespan.

Through hands-on experiences in community engagement, program planning, and evaluation, our graduates emerge as skilled public health professionals, ready to make a tangible impact in diverse settings. Our curriculum seamlessly blends traditional public health principles with cutting-edge research methodologies, emphasizing a holistic understanding of community health. Students engage in an immersive learning environment, tackling real-world challenges through collaborative projects that bridge theory and practice.

This program fosters a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on expertise from a variety of disciplines while learning and collaborating with colleagues in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Environmental Health. The faculty expertise in the division covers addiction and substance use, HIV and STDs, cancer, diet and physical activity, and maternal and child health, among others. The SBS Division spearheads a transformative educational experience, preparing graduates to address today’s complex public health issues, both locally and globally.
