The School of Public Health Community Garden is a way for the School of Public Health at the University of Memphis to get involved in the community and bring awareness to public health.

Icon for vision: PlantsVision

Our vision is to create a garden that promotes healthy eating lifestyles and brings our school and community together to address some of the problems with access to food and food deserts in Shelby County.

The School of Public Health is driven by promoting healthy communities and we are determined to cultivate a vibrant community garden. We want to create a community garden that serves as an example of sustainable food systems, encourages wholesome eating, and combats food deserts in our neighborhood. We will strive to create an inclusive and nurturing space where community members can flourish, assist in growing produce for low-income neighborhoods, their own nutritious produce, and lead an improved quality of life. We hope to educate our participants in environmental sustainability and the impact of public health. Together, we can create a city of grit, grind, and greens!

Our community garden operates on a few simple principles to ensure a harmonious and productive space for everyone involved. Each participant is responsible for caring for the plot, using organic and environmentally friendly practices whenever possible. We encourage cooperation, knowledge sharing, and a friendly atmosphere among gardeners. Please be respectful of other plots, clean up after yourself, and follow the established rules and operation policy provided below. Any surplus produce is often shared with the community, so your efforts benefit everyone. We're here to grow together, both as gardeners and as a community, so let's make it a green and thriving space for all to enjoy!
