About the Program

This program introduces key concepts and the interplay of the natural and human ecosystems by integrating of epidemiological and informatics tools and through the societal and cultural lenses. Through a series of five (5) 3-credit hour courses, students will learn to analyze public health data, understand the environmental and societal determinants of health, and develop strategies for disease prevention and health promotion. The curriculum incorporates team-based flipped classroom pedagogy to link didactic learning with practical experiential and service-learning experiences. This certificate is ideal for those seeking to enhance their knowledge in public health, pursue academic training in health-related fields, or seek entry-level jobs in public health or related disciplines.

Upon completion of the program, the students should be able to:

  • recognize the cultural, socioeconomic, behavioral, biological, environmental, and other factors that impact human health and contribute to health disparities
  • describe the underlying science of human health and disease including opportunities for promoting and protecting health across the life course
  • explain the basic concepts, methods, and tools of public health data collection, use, and analysis and why evidence-based approaches are an essential part of public health practice.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Public Health is a flexible option to get you ahead. Offered online or in-person, the courses provide foundational skills for public health innovations and solutions. Students will meet experts and develop interdisciplinary, multisectoral, pre-health, pre-Med and pre-STEM career path connections.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Public Health is a fifteen (15) credit hour program that allows students to enhance their knowledge in public health, pursue academic training in health-related fields, or seek entry-level jobs in public health or related disciplines. Graduates will be equipped with the skills to make a positive impact on public health at personal, family, community, national and global level.

Admission Information

Requirements:

To be eligible for the public health major, you should have a GPA of 2. 5 0 or higher, and be in good academic standing. There are no prerequisites to declare a major in Public Health.
