UofM Admissions and NCAA Initial Eligibility

Current high school students interested in pursuing a career as a student-athlete at the University of Memphis must meet certain criteria before enrolling in classes and participating in athletics. In essence, the prospective student-athlete must meet the necessary admissions criteria for the University of Memphis and the initial eligibility requirements for the NCAA Eligibility Center.

NCAA Initial Eligibility Standards

To ensure you meet NCAA Initial Eligibility Standards, please complete the following:

Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and apply for certification after your junior year of high school. For more information, click here.

You will be asked to meet these requirements:

  • 16 Core Courses
  • Meet the Core GPA and ACT or SAT Index established by the NCAA

ACT and SAT Codes

On the ACT or SAT, mark code 9999 so that the Eligibility Center will receive your test scores.

On the ACT, mark code 3992 so that the University of Memphis will receive your test scores.

On the SAT, mark code 1459 so that the University of Memphis will receive your test scores.

Documented Learning Disability

If you are a student who has a documented learning disability, you should register to take a non-standard SAT or ACT, and to take the test with extended time. This will flag the NCAA so they know you have a learning disability. This is to your advantage. You should also utilize all accommodations that your high school provides for students with disabilities.
