The College of Arts and Sciences recently celebrated the exceptional contributions of its faculty and staff across teaching, advising, research, and service. Highlighting the college's dedication to student success, the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Andrew Senter (Criminology and Criminal Justice) for his engaging classroom instruction and commitment to student learning. Alongside teaching honors, the Dean's Award for Advising Excellence recognized Jermaine Johnson (Chemistry) and Kendra Murphy (Sociology) for their outstanding mentorship, personalized guidance, and ongoing support in helping students navigate their academic journeys.
The program also showcased university-wide recognition through the University of Memphis Alumni Association Awards, honoring faculty who bring distinction to the institution through scholarship, instruction, and community impact. Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Awards were presented to Dr. Benjamin Keller (Physics and Materials Science) and Dr. Ian McLean (World Languages and Literatures). In research and community engagement, Daphene McFerren (Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change) received the Excellence in Engaged Scholarship award. At the same time, Dr. Rebecca Adams (English) was honored for Distinguished Research in the Humanities.
Marking a special milestone for the college, this year featured the presentation of the inaugural Excellence in Service Award to Dr. Gary Emmert (Chemistry). The new award recognizes Dr. Emmert's sustained dedication and steadfast leadership within the college and the Department of Chemistry, notably including his service as interim dean over the past year.
