Rob Carter of FedEx Will Address UofM Commencement Dec. 13

December 1, 2015 - The University of Memphis will hold its fall Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 13, awarding 1,607 degrees, including 43 doctorates, in two ceremonies at FedExForum.

During the noon Commencement, the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Communication and Fine Arts, the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and University College will confer degrees. At 4:30 p.m., degrees will be awarded to graduates of the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, College of Education, Herff College of Engineering, Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management, Loewenberg College of Nursing, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and School of Public Health.

The speaker at both sessions will be Robert B. "Rob" Carter, executive vice president of FedEx Information Services and chief information officer of FedEx Corp. He is a member of the five-person Executive Committee, which plans and executes the corporation's strategic business activities. Carter also serves as co-CEO of FedEx Services, the shared service entity responsible for sales, marketing, information technology and customer service.

Carter joined FedEx in 1993 and has more than 35 years of systems development and implementation experience. He is responsible for setting the technology direction of the FedEx applications, infrastructure, networks and data centers that provide around-the-clock and around-the-globe support for FedEx products.

Carter has been awarded many industry accolades, including Fast Company's Most Creative People in Business 2014 and 2010, Fortune magazine's Executive Dream Team, Information Week's Chief of the Year Award in 2000, 2001 and 2005, and a seven-time recipient of CIO magazine's 100 Award. He is also a charter inductee into the publication's CIO Hall of Fame.
