UofM Crews Center Entrepreneurship Fellow Secures Funding for Photo App
June 16, 2015 - Morgan Steffy, an Entrepreneurship Fellow at the University of Memphis Crews Center for Entrepreneurship, has secured $135,000 in initial funding for her startup company, Pickle. The majority of the funding is from Wolf River Angels, the investment arm of Memphis-based accelerator program Start Co.
Pickle is a fun app for competitive selfies and photo sharing. Users upload photos to challenge categories such as "best dog selfie," "messiest car" or "most disheveled morning face," and other users vote for the winner. One blog called Pickle "the Olympics of Snapchatting, making it the most exciting technological innovation since Facebook replaced Myspace."
Steffy was selected as one of the inaugural class of Crews Center Entrepreneurship Fellows last fall. She recently won $1,000 in the G60 (Gone in 60 Seconds) Elevator Pitch competition in Jonesboro, Ark. G60 contestants have 60 seconds to pitch their product or service to an audience who judge the business concept as if they are considering it for a potential investment.
