Data and Sample Moratorium

The Mississippi Embayment Research Center (MERC) follows NSF Sample and Data Policies, ensuring transparency and accessibility of scientific data.

  • A two-year moratorium applies to all samples housed at MERC and data generated in-house. During this period, only the original sample collectors will have direct access during this period.
  • After two years, all samples and associated data will be made publicly available to the Earth science community.
  • Copies of all in-house generated data will be retained and linked to sample records within the repository’s data management system.
  • Researchers utilizing MERC samples must submit analytical results and any associated publications within two years of sampling to ensure long-term data preservation and accessibility.
