FREE Community Event- Speak Out: Dispelling Myths & Outdated Laws on HIV

About the Event
This event, hosted at The Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education, in conjunction with Change the Pattern, a major initiative by The National AIDS Memorial (NAM) and the Southern AIDS Coalition to bring sections of the historical AIDS Quilt to communities in the southern United States as a teaching tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS, will include a panel presentation by key experts in the HIV Is Not A Crime response in Tennessee followed by a reception and tour of the AIDS Quilt.
 
Dr. Robin Lennon-Dearing will be part of the panel to educate the community about HIV criminal laws in Tennessee.

Tennessee Blues: Exploring HIV Criminalization in Tennessee

In anticipation of Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on August 20th, this webinar will explore the disparate impact that HIV criminalization has on Black women in Tennessee.  We will have special guests from the Williams Institute, who just released a groundbreaking report on the impact of HIV criminalization in Tennessee as well as guests from the Tennessee HIV Modernization Coalition.

Join us on August 16th from 5-6:30PM CT/6-7:30PM ET for this important conversation and find out how you as a Tennessean can engage more in the work to end HIV crminalization in Tennessee.

Ricki Martin embodies the essence of the outstanding student engagement award with her commitment to community engagement and student leadership across seven organizations. As a Master of Social Work student, Ricki has interned with Life Choices and CHOICES Memphis Reproductive Health. Her drive for social and reproductive justice and equity extends to her involvement with community and student leadership roles. As board member for the Tennessee Health Care Campaign and pregnancy, birth, and postpartum doula at Birth Strides, Ricki helps to advocate for all Tennesseans to have access to high quality, affordable, and equitable healthcare.
