From the DeanDean Abby Parrill-Baker

Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at the University of Memphis. As Interim Dean, I am honored to lead a dynamic and diverse community of scholars, educators, and students. As the largest of UM’s Colleges and Schools, we have more than 4000 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students majoring in CAS degree programs. In fact, almost every UM student, at one time or another, will be one of our students, regardless of major. Across CAS, we share a dedication to the pursuit of knowledge, creativity, and service. Our aim, simply put, is a successful outcome for every student.

CAS is the heart of the UM. We offer educational experiences across the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Pre-Professional Advising is housed in CAS for all UM students. Our Reserve Officer Training Corps programs develop the next generation of military leaders. Many CAS students explore career options through internships. Others opt to see the world through study abroad opportunities. Our students work with us to build their experiences and skills, positioning them for rewarding and impactful careers. Whether your future takes you toward the sciences and technology, the humanities or social sciences, or at the nexus where disciplines cross, know that you are engaging in work that shapes minds and moves academic disciplines and our communities forward.

We are the largest College, but you will not get lost in the crowd. Our 600+ faculty are scholars and innovators, but you will interact with them in classes that average about 30 students each. They need you, our students, to help them reach the next level in their research. Our students graduate prepared to lead, create, and make a difference—locally and globally.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to explore the work of the talented people in CAS. Go Tigers!
