From UofM to Google: a Tiger's Journey

A discussion with alumni of the Computer Science program at the University of Memphis.
Panelists will discuss their journey from the UofM to Google, what they do now, how to be effective in these roles and what Google looks for in new hires.
Participation from students is encouraged through submitting questions prior to event.
Panelists Bios
Javier Snaider
Dr Javier Snaider earned an Electronics Engineering degree, with honors diploma, from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. He also completed a Computer Science PhD program at the University of Memphis under Dr Stan Franklin, and worked in the Cognitive Computing Research Group. He has worked for Google since 2012 and is currently a researcher in the Video Understanding team working in various machine learning projects involving video signals. Previously he worked in natural language processing also at Google Research. |
Jarek Wilkiewicz
Jarek is a Senior Technical Program Manager II leading large scale NLP research technical program management at Google Research. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis (B.S.) Computer Science with concentration on AI, (1995) and Carnegie Mellon University (M.S.) Software Management (2009). His career roles have included engineer, entrepreneur, developer advocate and a manager of both small and large distributed teams (100+ engineers spread across US, UK and Beijing, China) thus far. His current passion and main focus is machine learning for language models. |
Janet Zhou
Janet Zhou is a proud Tiger alumna, with a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Memphis, and a MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She is currently a Product Manager at Google. Previously, she has worked in Product Management at eBay, PayPal, and Amazon. |
