Finance is a rigorous and highly respected field of study that prepares students for many career options. We offer multiple areas of study and licensing exam preparation including corporate finance, banking, CFP® exam, CFA® Charterholder exam and FinTech.

The Department of FIR offers an Accelerated BBA+MS program to outstanding undergraduate
majors in Finance. Students accepted into the program may begin coursework for the
MS in Finance and/or a 4-course Graduate Certificate during their senior year. Students
interested in this accelerated program are encouraged to begin planning for it early
in their undergraduate careers, in consultation with both their undergraduate advisor
and the MS Coordinator of the Department of Department of Finance, Insurance and Real
Estate.

Real estate is a specialized area of finance designed for students who desire careers that specialize in residential, commercial or industrial real estate and related industries.
Finance majors study the theory, structure and techniques for making decisions in
the financial environment. These decisions include the acquisition of funds by business
firms, and the capital budgeting decisions that utilize these funds. Finance also
includes the applied areas of investment analysis, investment banking, trading market
microstructure, commercial banking and financial institutions management, international
finance and real estate.

Six-course program can be incorporated into your FIR degree path to earn a certificate and prepare you to obtain a CFA® credential.

Six-course program, independent of a degree path, that provides enhanced foundational knowledge in real estate law, real estate finance, real estate appraisal and real estate investment. There is more to real estate than being a sales agent or broker. This track is offered both on-campus or online to best fit your schedule.
Career Opportunities: Buying, selling, evaluating, managing, financing, or leasing
property for residential, commercial or industrial uses. Develop subdivisions and/or
shopping centers. Work in real estate related industries such as title companies,
mortgage banking, land use planning and architecture.

master of science (ms) in finance
The Master of Science (MS) in Finance program is a 33-hour program that can usually be completed within 2 years. The program offers the most in-depth exploration of Finance and related topics of any of the master’s programs offered at the University of Memphis. Prominent features of the program are the wide range of Finance electives, evening classes that are convenient to students working in the Memphis area and small class sizes.

doctor of philosophy (phd) in business administration with concentration in finance
The required course work for the PhD concentration in Finance includes corporate finance, investments, and market micro-structure theory and applications. Promising scholars from various regions and nations belong to the student body. The research tools and opportunities available to our doctoral students are impressive. Financial databases such as CRSP, COMPUSTAT, and TAQ are available on campus for research.
