The Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded Dr. Kevin Berisso of the Department of Engineering Technology at the Herff College of Engineering a $1.23M grant to advance innovative automotive solutions that improve safety and performance in commercial transportation.

Dr. Berisso will use the grant money from the DOT to develop the next generation of tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) for commercial vehicles, highlighting the national importance of safety and more efficient roadways.

Failures in commercial vehicles contribute to safety risks, increased fuel consumption, and costly maintenance. The development and advancement of TMPS technology deliver more accurate, real-time insights for proactive vehicle management. Findings will inform transportation policy, support industry adoption, and improve fleet efficiency nationwide.

This research has the potential to enhance roadway safety, improve fuel efficiency and sustainability, reduce costs for industry partners, and strengthen workforce development through hands-on student research experiences.

The Herff College of Engineering is proud to see Dr. Berisso leading impactful, federally funded research that brings real-world solutions to the transportation sector.
