Dr. Sabya Mishra, Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the Center for Transportation Innovations in Education and Research (C-TIER) at the University of Memphis, has received a $124,929 research award from the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) for the project, “Transit Asset Management Plan for MATA.”

The project will support MATA in updating its Transit Asset Management Plan by developing a comprehensive inventory of transit assets and evaluating the condition and performance of vehicles, facilities, infrastructure, and other capital assets. The research team will also develop data-driven methods to help identify and prioritize rehabilitation and replacement needs. As part of the project, the team will integrate asset condition, maintenance, safety, and funding information into a decision-support framework and develop an interactive dashboard to help MATA monitor asset performance and future investment needs.

The project will provide MATA with a stronger basis for long-term capital planning and help support efforts to maintain its transit system in a state of good repair in accordance with Federal Transit Administration asset management requirements.
